Street Furniture

Street Furniture - A 3rd year project to design a rotationally mouldable product for Amberol, Alfreton. Both a bin and a seat to be installed into cities to give streets a sence of aesthetic beauty. Before the design process was conducted a large range of questions were asked to both the general public and professionals so that a unique and perfect outcome could be produced.

The triple bin; A bin of 3 sides allowing for 3 times the amount of general waste or different bin types; for example recycling and compostable waste. For security the central core would bolt to the street floor, the individual bins would clip on allowing for easy assembly. Each bin has a closed aperature for rubbish disposal which would open when the user walks upto the bin. This not only allows the user to use the bin without the need to touch it but it also helps prevent the rubbish scattering over the streets when full.

The central solar panel would charge the motors that operate the bin aperature flaps allowing for it to be low maintenence. The cigarette tube would lift out and simply be emptied. The slanted tops of the bins also help to prevent people from sitting on them. The tops of the bins would be made from a wood efect plastic called plaswood which has the aesthetic properties of wood and the longevity  properties of plastic.

Bin colour options.

Black: General Waste.

Green: Recycling.

Purple: Compostable Waste.

The circular street bench: A round form that is able to comfortably seat 8 people. Like the bin, the bench would be bolted to the floor for security. The bench is designed in a modular formation allowing for endless configuration possibilities. There is a channel that allows any trapped water to escape from around the plaswood. In the centre of the bench are planters for flowers.

Due to its modular nature the bench is able to be positioned into a corner, along a flat and around a corner with the the option of anchoring to the wall.

These are some alternative configurations that can be acieved. Also a tall planter to give the seat a back rest and a multicoloured version which would be perfect for a playground at a park or in a school.
